The best case scenario will always be to have both a dedicated 8-way and a 4-way joystick in the same cabinet, or a dedicated 4-way games cabinet, and a dedicated 8-way games cabinet.

However, Mousetrap does not do well with an 8-way joystick. The issue I'm having is it's in a candy cab, so switching from 8-way to 4-way from the top would work best for me.
However, I do maintain that using dome switch or leaf spring joysticks is the way to go for classic Atari and Commodore games. Microswitches are great in an arcade setting, but for some reason 2600 and C64 games feel 'off' when I use a microswitch joystick.

Exidy Venture 1981 Repair Log - Joystick Rebuild 7/19/20 I finally was able to find an original Venture joystick for this machine. It was fairly rusted and needed a good cleaning before I put it into the cab. This joystick has a lot of parts and seems to be super over-engineered! The large ball top is held on by what looks like green loctite

Battlezone I don't think Space Invaders had a joystick, just left and right buttons. Space Invaders originally was a joystick. Check out the OG dark blue Taito cabs.
